Stellenbosch was founded in 1679. However it is not simply a town of dignified historic buildings and tree-lined avenues. It is also a modern town, a bustling center for commerce, agriculture and education. The town has moved with the times while maintaining its pastoral character and preserving its historic heritage. It is twelve miles from beautiful beaches and 34 miles from Cape Town. If you're a nature lover you'll enjoy the hiking trails in the surrounding mountain ranges or even a walk in the Botanical Gardens in the town. Stellenbosch also offers a wide variety of cultural activities in which the University's departments of Music, Drama and Creative Arts play an important role. Additionally, the Stellenbosch wine region is one of the oldest in the southern hemisphere, and certainly regarded as the most beautiful.
Stellenbosch University is recognized as one of the four top research universities in South Africa. The University has ten faculties, of which eight - AgriSciences, Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Engineering, Law, Science, Theology and the larger part of Economic and Management Sciences - are located on the main campus in Stellenbosch. Being historically and officially an Afrikaans institution, Stellenbosch University offers classes in Afrikaans and English, reflecting the needs and interests of an increasingly diverse student body.
Many of the undergraduate courses at Stellenbosch University are taught in Afrikaans. For this reason, International Programmes Stellenbosch University (IPSU) organizes additional courses in English designed to fit the needs of international students. Most incoming students follow courses selected from the IPSU offerings though some will take courses from the mainstream university offerings as well. One of the highlights of the IPSU offerings is the 9-credit service learning course, Learning for Sustainable Community Engagement course.
The Langenhoven Students' Center or Neelsie is the social heartbeat of the campus and houses the Students' Representative Council, a shopping centre, the offices of the various student societies and the University's community radio station, MFM 92.6. The student societies, which cater to a wide range of interests from culture and politics to religion and relaxation, add to the unique experience of being a Matie, as a student of Stellenbosch is affectionately known. If you enjoy sports, Stellenbosch University is an ideal place to study. There is a fully equipped gymnasium with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, squash courts, saunas, and over 20 competitive and recreational sport clubs. Stage and other productions take place at the HB Thom Theatre while the Endler Hall Conservatoire accommodates several choirs and orchestras. You will live on campus in a single bedroom and share a kitchen, bathroom and common area with a mix of international and South African students.

Compared to a lot of my friends I definitely had to put with less hassle - all because of you. In so many aspects you could not have done any better. I would be more than willing to talk to others ...
