Participants complete three to eighteen-month internships or training placements in arts organizations, media and communications companies and other businesses related to the participants field of study. Placements are generally unpaid. Participants are invited to a two day gathering of participants for orientation in Washington, D.C., including room and board and activities for this visit to Washington, D.C.

Candidates applying from abroad to intern or train in the United States through the Internship in the USA program must meet the necessary elibility requirements outlined by the US Department of State and have a strong background in the field of interest. Candidates must either be current students or recent graduates in a related field OR have a related non-US degree plus one year of related non-US work experience OR have five years of related non-US work experience. Candidates must be proficient in English and be prepared to budget for an unpaid training or internship placement. Candidates must be able to complete a short webcam interview with an Internship in the USA staff member while applying to the program.
