Intensive Spanish in Bogota - with Combined Voluntary Work

Qualifications

Voluntary Work Requirements/Structure:
- This programme combines an Intensive Spanish course with 3 or 4 hours of volunteer work with children, the elderly or internal refugees each afternoon
- Minimum level: Intermediate
- Minimum stay: 4 weeks
- The organisations we work with include: Fundacion Rafael Pombo, Hogar nueva Granada, Fundacion Social por Bogota, Fundacion Casa Linda Hogar, Hogar Abuelitos Sol y Luna*, Hogar Amor y Vida, Fundacion de Atencion Al Migrante.

Description of the work in each organization:
1. Fundacion Social por Bogota:
- The Bogota Social Foundation has three locations where activities take place
- Students will be accompanied to the location by a staff member on the first day
- After the first day students will need to use public transport to get to the activity centre

2. Fundacion Casa Linda Hogar:
- This residential home is located in the Santa Rita district and is quite large, with approximately 20 residents
- The atmosphere is friendly and the home is surrounded by gardens
- The timetable for volunteers is from 13.00 to 16.00 Monday through Friday

3. Hogar Abuelitos Sol y Luna:
- A small home located in Santa Rita, Hogar Abuelitos Sol y Luna has about 12 residents
- They don't have any kind of teaching, reading or games material and therefore volunteers are asked to bring their own
- The timetable for volunteers is from 13.00 to 16.00 Monday through Friday

4. Hogar Amor y Vida:
- Located in Santa Isabel, Hogar Amor y Vida has about 17 residents
- They have a variety of materials available for activities
- Their timetable for volunteers is from 13.00 to 18.00 Monday through Friday

5. Fundacion de Atencion al Migrante:
- New clients arrive daily and thus the centre hosts different activities depending on the needs of the clients present
- There is however a more permanent group of clients with whom IH student volunteers can work

Activities may include:
1. With children and adolescents:
- Teaching Basic English
- Playing table games
- Leading recreational activities

2. With Internal Refugees:
- Teaching Basic English
- Teaching hand crafts with daily activities
- Going to the park, etc.

3. With the elderly:
- Accompanying and assisting them
- Playing table games
- Leading recreational activities
- Going to the park, etc.
- Reading with/to them
