CELTA at ISLC follows a University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate-approved syllabus. Throughout the course, CELTA enrollees should develop familiarity with principles surrounding teaching as well as developing practical teaching English skills. This course includes practical teaching, observing experienced teachers in classroom setting, and completing practical written assignments.

he Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is the most widely recognized qualification for teaching ESL or EFL (TEFL/TESL). It has a very high reputation due to its challenging expectations and thorough curriculum. The CELTA Certificate is often considered a minimum requirement for employment as an English language teacher in language-teaching institutions in Montreal, in Canada, and abroad.
CELTA candidates train to become English language teachers to speakers of English as a second and/or foreign language. ILSC-Montreal welcomes CELTA applicants from all over the world and from a variety of backgrounds, with or without TEFL/TESL experience. The course is also helpful to those who are already in the profession but who have no formal TESL/TEFL qualification.
- Be aged 20 or over (generally recommended)
- Have an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables the participants to undertake the course and prepare for teaching a range of levels
-- Have the potential to develop the necessary skills to become effective teachers and to successfully complete the written assignments and the teaching practicum
- Have a standard of education equivalent to that required for entry into university
*** Please note that although it is not necessary for applicants to possess a Bachelor's degree to enter the CELTA program, many foreign countries and Canadian associations (such as TESL Canada) require university degrees from their ESL teachers.
