Includes placement, housing, and meals!
Participate in educational enhancement for primary-school students. Responsibilities include: teaching children English and Mathematics; painting, playing games and singing with the children; working with local teachers in creating low-cost and fun teaching material; helping doctors and hospital staff with regular health checkups of the children; and creating basic hygiene awareness among children on a regular basis.
After a night in New Delhi, the program begins formally in Jaipur, the bustling and historic capital of Rajasthan. Volunteers stay with local families during a 3-day orientation that covers issues such as:
* Indian history and culture
* Volunteering and community development
* An introduction to Hindi
Each placement includes 3 off-site excursions:
* Sightseeing of Amber Fort in Jaipur with elephant ride
* Camel safari on full-board basis with overnight camping in the desert
* Tiger safari at Ranthambore National Tiger Reserve
Volunteeer in India Placement Options
Volunteer placements are designed to involve about 15-20 hours of work per week. Volunteers in India also benefit from special workshops on Indian culture such as yoga and cooking, and planned excursions to local sites of interest. Plenty of free time will also exist for reading, relaxing and exploring the local surroundings. Volunteers are aided by local assistants who serve as guides, translators, and overall support staff.
Applicants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age with at least a high school diploma
- Be in good health with an independent, flexible, open-minded attitude
- Be able to live and work in rural communities where conditions are basic

Financial assistance is now available through the InterExchange Foundation Grant Program. Established in 2006, the Foundation aims to encourage young Americans to pursue work and life experiential programs abroad. If you have applied for, and been accepted to, an InterExchange Working Abroad program (Language Schools excluded), you may be eligible to receive a Working Abroad Grant. Details will be sent to participants upon acceptance to their programs.
