As an Au Pair, you will live as a member of your German Host Family, providing a maximum of 30 hours of child care per week. Some of your duties while you live in Germany may include dropping the children off and picking them up from school, interacting and playing with the children, helping them with their homework, helping to keep their rooms clean and cooking light meals for them. Each German family situation is different and schedules will be arranged with your German Host Family. You may be asked to baby-sit in the evenings, but no more than 3 times per week. Au Pairs working in Germany are not responsible for housework unrelated to the children or for managing the household.
Germany offers more exciting options for experiencing a new culture and way of life than almost any other country. Au pair placements in Germany are available country-wide, but no stay in Germany would be complete without spending time in the new Berlin and witnessing the many changes brought about by reunification-often an emotional experience for citizens and travelers alike. Other favorite German pastimes include visiting an outdoor beer garden, cruising on the Rhine, and hiking in the Bavarian Alps.
All Working Abroad programs feature:
* Variety of Opportunities - A program based on your personal interests or career development needs.
* Pre-Arranged Work Placements and Housing - Most programs include pre-arranged housing and work placements so you'll know where you'll be living and working before leaving the U.S. Our more flexible programs offer job placement and housing resources as needed throughout the program.
* Work Permit and Visa Application Assistance - We help ensure you'll be legally entitled to work and travel during your time in the program.
* Accident and Sickness Insurance - Included in each program or available through InterExchange at a reasonable cost.
* Pre-Departure and Host Country Assistance - Working Abroad and our international cooperators provide pre-departure and host country assistance throughout the entire program. Emergency support is also available.
* Be between the ages of 18 and 25 with at least a high school diploma.
* Have at least a basic knowledge of the German language.
* Have previous child care or baby-sitting experience.
* Have a genuine love of children, patience, flexibility, independence and a willingness to work hard!
* Be able to commit to a period of at least 6 months (most Host Families prefer Au Pairs who can stay for the school year from September to June).
As an Au Pair in Germany, you'll receive: A stipend of at least 205 Euro per month. 50 Euro per month toward the cost of your airfare. 4 weeks of paid vacation per year. At least 1 complete day off per week (at least 1 Sunday per month will be free). Transportation card or the possibility to use the family car. Basic health, accident and liability insurance.
