The Intercollegiate Sri Lanka Education (ISLE) Program features an intense immersion experience that is ideal for students who are interested in studying for a semester abroad. We combine rigorous language study and academic classes with fun field trips, room and board through a homestay, and support and tools needed to create a meaningful connection with Sri Lankan society and culture.

The ISLE Program consortium is composed of Swarthmore, Holy Cross, Gustavus Adolphus, Colby, Carleton, Bowdoin, and Bates colleges. Undergraduates from other universities and colleges are welcome to join the program during Spring or Fall semester programs.


1. Homestay with a local middle-class family in Sri Lanka

2. Classes with professors in one of the top universities in the country, University of Peradinya

3. Includes an Independent Study that lasts for a month

4. Located in Kandy, the countrys hub for culture and traditional arts

5. Support from the ISLE Staff/Center
