  • Description

Instruction at Cambridge consists of several distinct courses called supervisions, which are centered around a clearly defined academic focus called a tripos. Each of the supervisions are scheduled weekly or fortnightly with a supervisor who will usually have only one or two students in each session. This individualized method of instruction is found only at Cambridge and Oxford and gives students the opportunity to explore a subject to its fullest extent and to the fullest extent of their abilities.

Applicants to IFSA-Butler's Cambridge program may apply to one of three Cambridge colleges (Pembroke College, New Hall, or Fitzwilliam College). Students whose applications are accepted by Cambridge will be registered members of both the University of Cambridge and also full members of the college to which they are accepted. Visiting Students enjoy all the privileges and amenities of both the University and College, including the College Library, University Library and appropriate faculty libraries.

In addition to membership in the College Junior Common Room, Visiting Students have full access to the College and University social, sports and recreational facilities. With the exception of varsity athletics, JYAs are welcome to participate in the student societies and activities of their choice.

  • Highlights

The Cambridge University Visiting Student program is extremely competitive, as academic requirements are rigorous and only a few spaces per college are available. All admissions decisions are made by the individual Cambridge colleges. Students considering application to a Cambridge college should have a solid academic background, a clear academic focus and a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher. Students interested in Cambridge are encouraged to apply in advance of the application deadline (January 15). At this time only Pembroke College allows part-year study.
