  • Description

    Program Manager

Job Description Although creativity is welcomed from all sources within the Institute, Program Managers are specifically tasked with creating program solutions for world challenges within your area of focus. Program plans should be based on the history and current geo-political/social fabric of the circumstance, and should include a multi-faceted consideration of the nine tracks of the multi-track system. Concept papers for programs or projects should be cleared through the Program Coordinator and Executive Director for approval before they become an official program or project of IMTD. Smaller components of active programs and projects (i.e., minor alterations to strategy, approach, contacts, M&E) should be discussed with the Program Coordinator.

Program Managers can work alone or in teams, as appropriate to the challenge. Program Managers can expect suggestions, feedback, contacts, and other support as available from all sources within IMTD. This includes having Program Manager program and operational concerns listened and responded to in an appropriate fashion and to the satisfaction of the Program Manager and Program Coordinator, Executive Director, and if necessary, the President or CEO.

The Program Manager is responsible to raise the necessary funds to implement the program. This should not require funds from the operational budget of IMTD. Typical sources are grants or private donors. Consider ways the project itself may also raise revenue.

The Program Manager is responsible to strategize and see to the implementation of the program. This includes (but is not limited to) the formalized creation of goals, tasks, benchmarks, and measurements of progress, success, and setbacks.

Unless previous arrangements are approved by the Executive Director or CEO, Program Managers are expected to be in the office at least three days per week Schedules and changes should be provided to the Office Manager and the Program Coordinator.

Attendance at the weekly 10:30 am Tuesday staff meeting is mandatory.

Creating and/or updating the turnover binder for your individual project is mandatory. Updating should occur regularly throughout your time with IMTD. The Program Coordinator may inspect this binder at any time to ensure that, upon your departure, a coherent conveyance of information is communicated to the next Program Manager.

Salary/Benefits Program Managers are paid by money they raise toward their projects or programs. Salary should be included in the budget estimates for projects. The base pay for full time work for budget considerations is $45,000/yr. Medical and dental benefits may also be added if supported by the budget.

Program Managers may be called upon to do work outside the scope of their program or project. A spirit of mutual cooperation within IMTD is expected. Pitch in where possible. Say no when necessary.

Project Officers work for Program Managers on specific tasks as assigned for the advancement of the overall program goals. Terms of responsibility are determined between the Program Manager and the Project Officer.

Archivists work for the Program Coordinator. Terms of responsibility are determined between the Program Coordinator and the Archivist.

  • Highlights

We take pride in the systems approach to building sustainable peace, and in the creative nature of the program designs we develop and execute. We also have a wealth of contacts around the world.

  • Qualifications

We require graduate studies and prefer completion of graduate degrees in subjects related to conflict resolution, business, or marketing. Relevant experience is common among the applicants selected. Program Managers must make a one year commitment. Project Officers need only commit for the time it takes to make a reasonable contribution to their assigned project. Neither position is paid unless the Program Manager raises the funds to pay salaries. We do not assist with visas or living expenses.

Archivists can be graduate or undergraduates. They sort through the documents of IMTD and generate a written history of our work.
