    INTRODUCTION

Thank you for your interest in our custom internship placements. Custom placements are a great way to match finely-tuned skills to a specific employer. We have a very high success rate in completing custom placements owing to our global network and personal contacts around the world. We can do custom placements in any U.S. state as well as many countries including those on our website and the list of countries and topics below.

    1) You choose the location down to the city you want to work in.
    2) You choose the topic of your internship.
    3) Write up a couple paragraph job description of a position you will accept.

    FEES

The fees for custom placements vary based on the location and how specific the internship is, etc. Typically they are usually only a few hundred dollars more than the prices on the website for established internships. To take on a custom placement, we need to have the full commitment of the student as these take a lot of our resources to complete. So, before we start, we need all your documents in: resume, application, 15.00 application fee (acceptance packet will be emailed to you), and 600.00 deposit. I suggest you do the background check on David Adams and I.C.E. so you feel confident moving forward. http://www.cultural-ecology.com/verify.php

    DEPOSIT

You have two options for paying your deposit. You can pay to I.C.E. directly, or if you would feel more comfortable you can pay it to a third party, in this case we use a independent Law Office based in Seattle, Washington. The check is made out to the actual law firm to be deposited in their account and not released to I.C.E. until the internship has been located and you get written confirmation from the internship host. There is an extra 30.00 non-refundable fee for this service. If we cannot locate the internship for you, either I.C.E. or the Law Firm will return the deposit to you depending on who you have paid. http://www.jamesrwatt.com/

A second option is that you can pay a non-refundable fee of USD 125.00 in lieu of the deposit. If you do this, then you have the option of canceling at any time without risk of losing the deposit. So, we will attempt to locate the internship once this fee is paid, provide you a job description. And, you can either accept or reject it for any reason. The difference being with the USD 600.00 deposit is that if we locate an internship that matches your terms of acceptable placement, then the deposit becomes non-refundable. If we do not find such a placement, you get your money back. The USD 125.00 is non-refundable if we find a placement or do not. But you can cancel at your whim. We don't make any money on the USD 125.00 as it will cost us more than that to locate your internship, but it is an option for you.

    SET UP TIME

Typically, we need three weeks or less to locate a custom internship placement. We will tell you from the outset based on how specific your location is and the job description provided how likely we are to be able to place you. If we think it is too specific we will make suggestions as to what we think is a doable project and you can decide if you want to make adjustments.

    EXAMPLE

Here is an example of real custom internship placement that we did a few months ago.

Kathryn approached I.C.E. about doing marine research on the East Coast of the United States. While we had nothing listed in that location and area, Dr. Adams was able to call upon his global contacts to locate the premier marine research center in the Southeast. The result: Kathryn was able to conduct original research on marine life distribution patterns in near coastal waters, in Charleston, South Carolina. We also set up a great housing option for her close to the marine research center. See below.

Dear I.C.E. Staff . . . The SCDNR staffs were really nice and supportive, from day one they made me feel like I was really part of their research team as a valuable member. The lab and research facilities were top notch and it was really cool to have the college right there. I was also able to go out in the field electro fishing and trammel net fishing. This was really cool because these techniques of fishing can only be done with a special permit and for research purposes exclusively. It was the first time in my life I really got to handle live fish and the boating staff was so knowledgeable they could tell me anything about any of the marine life we saw. The house I stayed at was cute and comfortable. The host was so nice and really helped me in getting acclimated by showing me all the best places to eat, shop, and go to the beach, as well as give me a taste of all of the fascinating history that the area holds. I worked hard, had fun, and made great contacts; what more could you want?

    YOUR CUSTOM INTERNSHIP REQUEST

    1) Write a few paragraphs describing: internship topic(s) and location(s) that you are willing to accept. State both your ideal placement: for example: Assistant Dolphin Rehabilitation/ Cancun, Mexico. Also include a more general placement that you would be willing to accept if that is the case: Marine Mammal Rehabilitation / Mexico, Hawaii, Fiji.
    2) Whatever you list in your description must be something that you are willing to accept if we find it so only put down what you would be happy doing. We always start with the most specific before moving to a broader description if necessary.
    3) We will tell you at the outset if we think your most specific request or general requests are doable projects. We will give you other options in similar fields to consider before you finalize your statement.
    4) Once a statement is agreed upon by both the intern and I.C.E. we both sign it and it serves as a binding agreement.
    5) The USD 600.00 deposit or USD 125.00 flat fee is paid either to Law Office of James Watt or I.C.E. directly and the process to locate the internship begins. We request three weeks to do the placement. If we find an organization that is willing to accept you, we send them the job description you sent and they sign off on it stating that they can provide quality work in the area that you indicated.
    6) Full payment is due in full 45 days before departure.

    EXAMPLE

This is an example of a quality custom designed internship description that we received a short while ago. We take this and then highlight the parts that we feel we can guarantee in a set up and present it back to the client for final approval. We both sign off on it noting that unless I.C.E. is able to fulfill the agreed upon project the deposit is refunded. The set up process begins.

    ICE Internship Description-Nepal

The internship will provide me with an international field study experience in environmental and community health in Nepal. I hope to engage in the design and implementation of a field-based research project in local communities.

I'd like the internship to include....
    1. Orientation to Nepal politics, cultures, and systems.
    2. Introduction to the public health issues in the region
    3. Development of monitoring and evaluation plans for public health projects in the region, involving field-based data collection, data analysis, write-up, and presentation.
    4. Community outreach activities, including education campaigns, help with a local clean water development project, and working in a monastery.
    5. Final presentations to community partners, including local health care providers.

    I hope to learn...

    1. "The historical, socioeconomic, cultural, environmental, political, and health aspects of life in Nepal.
    2. "Cultural practices and traditional beliefs and their relationship to health issues in communities including health seeking behaviors in the communities of interest.
    3. "The organization of health care services in Nepal with specific focus on the ecosystem.
    4. "Health issues and health seeking behaviors in communities of interest.
    5. "How the local environment impacts community health.
    6. "Assessing and analyzing health issues and reporting findings and recommendations to key stakeholders and communities of interest.
    7. "Theory and practice of monitoring and evaluation plans for health projects and programs.
    8. "Implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans for local health programs.

    POSSIBLE TOPICS/LOCATION

Below is a list of possible topics and locations. We have contacts in many of these locales. And if we don't we will partner with a comparable organization to make the internship happen if it is doable. Finding the ideal internship can be a very consuming experience for a busy student and there are many factors to put together a quality living experience. Let us use the resources we have to get you confirmed. There is no risk for you as your deposit is refundable if we cannot match your expectations. Imagine just writing up a couple paragraphs about your ideal placement and then relaxing while we make it happen for you.
