Throughout the year
Interns focus their efforts on a single project, to be determined by a staff assessment of their skills and experience. While working in the aquarium, the intern will be expected to participate in caring for marine life, including preparing food, studying species behavioral patterns, collecting data, and doing administrative work. Depending on the individual, some interns may also fill the role of public educator for the aquarium's visitors. All research projects have both a field and lab element, although students will spend the majority of time in the lab.
I.C.E. expects interns to offer a positive attitude, work ethic, and commitment to this position, along with flexibility in assisting the institute in the areas where help is needed the most. In return, you will receive an unrivalled education on the Andaman Sea from top researchers and scientists. Learning about complex marine eco-systems and aquarium management strategies through a 'hands-on' approach will leave you with the skills and confidence necessary to teach others about the Andaman Sea.

The Institute for Cultural Ecology was founded on the conviction that visits to exotic destinations imply a commitment to cultural sensitivity and environmental stewardship. Our programs match the interests, academic goals, and passions of the participant to select host organizations and researchers. Once you connect with a place and its people, they become a part of you. Forever.
