Tokyo is a modern city of wonderful contrasts. Its dignified temples and shrines stand quietly in the shadows of massive skyscrapers. Tokyo's modernity and fast pace are somehow subdued by the serene charm of its many parks and the quiet courtesy of its people. Both energetic and graceful, Tokyo is a gateway to the fascinating culture of Japan.
Combining the best of modern, fast-paced Tokyo with the convenience and charm of the coastal town of Makuhari New City, the IES Abroad Tokyo Society & Culture program surrounds you with the fascinating culture of Japan. One benefit of the program is its location in Chiba Prefecture, on the eastern side of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Makuhari New City is a very manageable area, and benefits from China's many rivers and parks as well as its urban amenities. Makuhari also offers easy access to the many historic, artistic, and leisure sites that Tokyo offers just 30 minutes away by commuter train.
Japan is fast-changing but still bound by tradition. In the IES Abroad Tokyo Society & Culture program you can engage in academic study and hands-on activities to give you experience and knowledge of Japan and its culture.
Offering you a multidisciplinary study of Japan and its people, the IES Abroad Tokyo Society and Culture program does not require prior language study but highly recommends it.
