Not far from Portugal and only 200 kilometers from Madrid, Salamanca is in the center of the old kingdom of Castile, where the language we know today as Spanish originated. Salamanca's fame lies in the prestige of its university, the graceful architecture of the Plaza Mayor, and the perfect Castilian Spanish that is spoken here. The Universidad de Salamanca opened in 1218 and enjoys an excellent reputation across disciplines, lending this city of about 200,000 a youthful, cosmopolitan air. Central to the rest of the Iberian Peninsula, Salamanca is the perfect home base for getting to know Spain and its language.

Over the course of the summer, you will come to know its vibrant plazas and winding streets for yourself. IES Abroad's Salamanca Summer Program offers enrollment in IES Abroad courses, housing in student residence halls as well as in homestays with local families, extracurricular activities, and field trips; you will have the opportunity to meet Spanish and international students alike. Starting at the IES Abroad Center in the heart of the city just steps from the Plaza Mayor, this program will help you to gain a meaningful cultural experience and a deeper knowledge of what it means to be a citizen of the world.

Highlights

The IES Abroad Salamanca Summer program is designed for students who want to improve their Spanish language skills through a full-immersion language program. Classes are offered by Cursos Internacionales at the Universidad de Salamanca, one of the leading academic institutions in Spain.

Exciting aspects of the program include:
- Enroll in an intensive Spanish language and conversation class at the Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior level.
- Live in Spanish homes with families or señoras, or live in a residence hall.
- Participate in a 3-day field trip to Coimbra, Aveiro, and Oporto.
