Spend the summer interning abroad in Rome! Designed to improve your Italian language skills and to develop professional skills in the global workplace, the IES Abroad Rome Summer Internship Program provides placement opportunities at a wide variety of businesses, educational organizations, non-profits, and political organizations.

Over the course of the summer, you will come to know Rome's lively piazzas and winding streets. IES Abroad's Rome Program offers a wide array of internship placements, housing in student apartments, and field trips; you will have the opportunity to meet Italian and international students alike. Starting at the IES Abroad Center beside the Tiber River across from the Castel Sant' Angelo, this program will help you to gain a meaningful cultural experience and a deeper knowledge of what it means to be a citizen of the world.

Highlights

Placements are available to students of all language levels, though students with more advanced Italian usually have a wider array of internship options available. Internships are routinely and formally monitored and all organizations are vetted by IES Abroad.

- Business, Marketing & Accounting: Marketing Assistant at Declicious Italy
- Education: Teaching Assistant at Explora Children's Museum
- International Cooperation & Development: Communication Assistant at Ricerca e Cooperazione (Italian NGO)
- International Relations & Political Science: Research Assistant at Istituto Affari Internazionali (Italian think tank)
- Media & Journalism: General Assistant at Associated Press Italia
- Chemistry & Biology: Lab Assistant at the Italian Red Cross - Environmental Radioactivity Lab
- Community Service: Organize activities for children at "La Maisonnette"

Placement depends on availability, your background, and language proficiency. Once on-site, personal interviews will determine the final selection. Internship placements may be quite competitive and cannot be guaranteed in advance. During the internship, you are provided guidance by the IES Abroad Internship Coordinator. The Coordinator keeps in touch with the workplace supervisor, whose task is to oversee and evaluate your work.

IES Abroad Rome Summer Internship students enroll in 6 credit hours, and all courses are worth 3 credits:
*IES Abroad Italian Language Course (required)
*IN395 Internship Seminar or AN/SO395 Community-based Learning Seminar (required)

Additional Exciting Program Aspects:
- Experience Italian culture through apartment living.
- Partake in unique field trips to sites such as Assisi, Perugia, the Amalfi Coast, or Cinque Terre.
- Benefit culturally and linguistically from an assigned local host called an Italian Student Companion.
