    Featuring an extended field study trip, the IES Abroad European Union Summer program offers you the opportunity for intensive study of the European Union and its relationships with Turkey and the Western Balkan states, particularly Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, and Kosovo. Through the unique Integrative Seminar and elective courses in English, and a nearly two-week long field study trip in Turkey and the Western Balkans, you will deepen your understanding of the region and experience first-hand the cultural and political landscape of multiple EU accession states.

    This program is particularly suitable for Culture Studies, Economics, History, International Business, International Relations, Political Science, and Religious Studies majors.

    Coupled with housing in residence halls with German and international students in historic, centrally-located Freiburg, Germany, this program will help you to gain a meaningful cultural experience and a deeper knowledge of what it means to be a citizen of the world.

    Curriculum Highlights
    * Integrative Seminar - Study a comprehensive overview of the European Union and its policies and practices toward Southeast Europe and EU accession candidates.
    * Elective Courses - Deepen your understanding of issues that shape present-day European affairs through courses in Politics and International Relations, International Economics and Business, and Cultural and Religious Studies.
    * 13-day Field Study Trip - Travel to Turkey and the Balkans to experience first-hand the cultural landscape of central and controversial EU accession state candidates.

    Additional Highlights
    * Housing in Residence Halls - Meet German and other international students by living in co-ed suite arrangements in university residence halls.
    * Cultural Activities - Participate in IES Abroad EU-sponsored activities and field trips to local sites such as the Black Forest.
    * The EU Summer Program is ideal either alone or paired with the preceding Spring or following Fall EU semester programs.
