Streets lined with dumpling and noodle stands, beautiful parks bedecked with pagodas, and 19th century homes with graceful four-walled courtyards still charm visitors from around the world.

Designed for students who have already begun studying Chinese, the IES Abroad Beijing Language Intensive Program gives you the opportunity to rapidly expand your knowledge of written and spoken Chinese. The Beijing version of Chinese sets the (standard pronunciation) for the rest of the country, so it is the ideal location to study language. As the monumental capital of ancient and modern China, Beijing is also the ideal place to learn about Chinese culture and history.

Over the course of the semester, you will come to know Beijing's wide avenues and twisting backstreets. IES Abroad's Beijing Language Intensive program offers internship placements, enrollment in IES Abroad courses, housing in homestays and in student residence halls, regular meetings with local students as language and culture partners, and field trips in Beijing and throughout China; you will have the opportunity to meet Chinese and international students alike.
