What does the project do?
The Ban Bo O school has been the local government school for the village for more than 50 years and provides a basic general education for all its pupils. The teachers have limited IT and English skills but give the children the best education that they can and as funding from the government is sparse the building is also in need of general maintenance.
Activities and schedule:
You will be working Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm. During the day you will be helping around the school with general maintenance and building work, assisting with meal times and teaching the staff English and IT skills in their free time. You will also be teaching informal English lessons to the kids after school hours and as the school has no sports teacher then if you are able to arrange sports activities then we are sure that they will love you forever! The school is very keen on any interesting activities that can enrich the children's lives so if you have any creative or artistic streaks then feel free to bring them on!
Want to help improve the future prospects of some amazing teenagers?
You will be helping a school with the day to day running and working with some amazing teenagers helping them to realize that there is a big world outside their village and they have the capacity to make a change in their lives! By helping with their education you will be improving their future prospects in life.
Trip Highlights:
- Help educate and work with some amazing teenagers
- Explore and experience the area of Vientiane
- Try the national dish Laap - a salad of minced meat or fish mixed with herbs, spices, lime juice and chilli.
- If you are looking for a little more comfort then the single rooms with private bathrooms may just be for you!
What's the project like?
This school has over 250 children aged 12 to 15 years and just over 20 members of staff all of whom are very eager to learn from volunteers from all over the world. Each member of staff is dedicated to giving the children the best education they can in order to improve their chances of a better standard of living after they leave school. The IT and English skills of the teachers however are limited with many teachers having few qualifications so the help of the volunteers is very much needed.
Why does the project need volunteers?
The school does not receive sufficient funding from the government so is in need of general care and maintenance and as the skills of the teachers are limited the help of volunteers is greatly needed and appreciated. With your help, self confidence and easy going manner you can help make a difference in the lives of these teenagers both in their education and in their school surroundings!
