5 Star Hotel Auckland, New Zealand (July 2011)

My first week of work went great. Every day got easier. All of the employees are really nice. I do have to say I am not used to their type of clientele and I am still getting used to that. My first week I was mainly trained by one other bartender on the operations of the evening shift. At times it was information over load, but now its a lot easier. They did a big training session about the over view of the hotel with many other new employees in other positions throughout the hotel about a month after I started.

Tourism Internship in New Zealand (June 2011)

First week was good! We did have a induction! There were a few briefings and safety talks but mainly games as they wanted you to interact with one another, get to know one another and meet new friends which seemed pretty easy as no-one really knew anyone and didnt have any choice but to meet new friends! Also because we were two weeks late starting due to no snow, our employer put on a few trips such as a hike up Rob Roy Glacier and the blue pools. Also they put free lunch on everyday as they realised we were all skint! So far i absolutely love it. I havent been home sick at all as there is so much going on all the time you dont really have chance to be home sick! Compared to England, New Zealand seems to have a complete different atmosphere as in& it seems to be friendly and a lot more laid back!

Auckland, New Zealand 4 star hotel (June 2011)

My first day at work went really well. I was very nervous but I had Charlotte (UK student placed by HTE Internships into same hotel) as company. We met with the F & B manager and worked through the induction booklet and toured the hotel. I love living in New Zealand. I have found that all the locals are very friendly towards me. I have already seen a lot of the north island and am planning on taking a trip to the south island at some point. I am lucky that some of my friends here are keen on showing me New Zealand, so we often pop in the car on days off and explore a new place. I think the travelling part has been the best for me. I have learnt so much about NZ and the Maori culture.

4 star hotel in Wellington, New Zealand (June 2011)

Everybody at work was friendly and all interested in getting to know me. They were all helpful with getting to know stuff in and around wellington. Living abroad is really good, and has given me a great opportunity to see the other side of the world. The way they live is quite different as they are all very relaxed.
