Each room is elegantly appointed with contemporary designs and furnishings, yet traditional features such as ornate plaster ceilings, colored leadlight windows, a sweeping staircase and tiled fireplaces are retained throughout.

The stylish surroundings are complemented by landscaped gardens designed and created by the owner, Rodney McDonald. The gardens provide sanctuary, privacy and relaxation in this urban dwelling.

On High Street was designed by celebrated Dunedin architect James Louis Salmond. Salmond was trained by Robert Arthur Lawson, who has provided Dunedin with many notable architectural landmarks. This house was built in 1904 for a Dunedin jeweler and watchmaker, Arthur John Shaw.

Located only minutes away from the city center, Hilltop On High Street affords guests an enjoying stroll to the Octagon or a drive to visit the many great spots in and around Dunedin. The city is renowned for its Victorian and Edwardian architecture, stunning local beaches and scenery, its proximity to unique wildlife, vibrant student culture, as well as an eclectic mix of cafes, bars, theaters, restaurants and shops.

Location

Hilltop On High Street is centrally located in one of Dunedin's oldest streets. Within walking distance to town you can easily access the shopping precinct, art galleries, Olveston, Taieri Gorge Railway trips, Moana Pool, walking tracks and more. If you’re not up to the return walk back to Hilltop there is a local bus service that stops right outside the house.
