Hess is a great organization that offers protection during such a huge transition of moving abroad. The support for housing, setup, and teaching skills was excellent. Without the help of Hess, I'm quite sure that I would not have been able to make such a big change in life.

Leaving home and starting fresh in a new country can be frightening, and daunting. Since my arrival to Taiwan, HESS has provided me with ample support, from an airport pick up to extensive training, help with accommodation and ongoing teaching support. Had it not been for their initial, then ongoing support my experience moving abroad would likely be drastically different. They've provided for me the security and aide throughout the last year most companies do not provide and thus prompted me to stay another year. The curriculum is easy to follow and for a first time teacher, teaching the material was not too overwhealming. Overall I can say had it not been for my great coworkers, their support, and the precise structure of the cirriculum i would have been back home a long time ago.
Good experience with good people!

I currently teach at the headquarters of Hess and manage the foreign teachers at six branches. Especially considering the size of the company, the offices communicate well and keep organized and homey. I am part of a family (the matriarch) and socialize with other teachers outside of work doing Taiwan things and western things in Taiwan; I really appreciate how many neat people I have known and stay in touch with. I highly recommend Hess because of its teacher support, plentiful resources, and great people!

HESS was a solid way to get set up the island and initiate myself to working and living abroad. The learning curve to teaching was quite steep in the beginning, especially at the branch that I taught at. Over time, with some effort and patience, I was able to get the hang of the material and start to loosen up in class and start enjoying the teaching experience itself. HESS certainly could do a better job at keeping tabs on local branches to catch any possible stray management, but overall they have a structured curriculum and teaching system that allows you to be relatively independent. Word of advice - don't try to take on all the school's issues yourself as you can only go so far with local management sometimes. This is not so much a complaint against HESS, but rather, Taiwanese culture. As a foreigner, you are expected to show up, be presentable and help your students to enjoy you class, NOT to give your opinion to management. As long as you keep this in mind and don't take this aspect of the culture personally, teaching with HESS is just fine.
Great good school. Good experience.

I had a very positive experience with HESS. The training was really helpful (because I study political science), so I really needed someone to show-up me how to actually teach! My students were awesome and once I got the hang of teaching, planning was super easy. I was placed in XiZhi which is on the outskirts of Taipei. It was a really nice suburb with modern housing and a short commute (20 minutes) from Taipei 101. Getting a scooter really made life a lot easier, and since there was a Costco nearby, I could get my Western fix when I needed. Overall, I don't really have any complaints.
