Originally a grazing property called Tandanya in the 60s, it was sold and renamed to Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and turned into a protected area in 1997. Now, the area is home to Southern Ocean Lodge - first super lodge in Australia and offers exclusive luxury travel accommodation and experience. The sanctuary is bordered by the Great Southern Ocean and more than 100,000 acres of protected wilderness lands. It opens up to many famous landmarks and sights in South Australia, including the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail, Remarkable Rocks, and pristine beaches.
Hanson Bay Company provides wildlife tours + accommodation in relaxing beachfront cabins. Travelers can participate in self-guided tours in the morning and guided tours at night. But they don’t have to walk far to see wildlife in the sanctuary because our self-contained cabins present many opportunities to see wildlife. If they wish to take part in our advocacy - that is, wildlife and environmental protection - they can sign up for our volunteer program.
