  • Description

The Tania Center is a home for rehabilitating many disabled children, street children, orphans and young Maasai girls rescued from early marriages. The main goal of the center is to provide education, shelter, food, and care to the less privileged children in the community and to equip them with skills of self-reliance and perseverance, giving them a more independent and successful future. By doing this, the Tania Center aims to create a society where all children have a sure foundation for the future in spite of their current situations.

At the Tania Center, volunteers are most needed to help teach primary and secondary students both in the classroom and one-on-one. You will also be involved with guidance and counseling activities, music and games, nurturing of talents, promotion of HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, and providing care and comfort for the children. As a volunteer you will become a strong presence in these children's lives working hard to help them overcome the many physical and mental challenges that may confront them. You will be able to work with children that have impaired hearing, are mentally handicapped, were formerly living in the streets, are orphans due to HIV/AIDS in their families, or are teenage girls rescued from abusive situations and forced marriages.

  • Highlights

While Kenya is in better shape economically than many of its less fortunate neighbors in East Africa, lack of adequate healthcare is a serious problem in some areas, and much of the population lives in abject poverty. Sixty percent of Kenyans live on less than USD1 per day.

As a volunteer in Kenya you will have the opportunity to use your unique talents and skills to assist Kenyans who are working to build a better future for themselves and their country.

The Center is located in Keekonyoike South, Ngong division of Kajido. This area is just southwest of Nairobi at the southern tip of the Rift Vally Province. All volunteers will be met at the Nairobi airport and taken to their host community.

Accommodations during the project are on site at guest house with other volunteers. Participants will have their own room with a comfortable bed and necessary amenities. All meals will be provided or cooked together at the guest house.
