"Skills to Read, Power to Lead" - SuperKids Literacy Project is a humanitarian program enhancing literacy through curriculum and resources in reading, computers, art, sports and music.
SuperKids volunteers are from all over the world as well as U.S. In 2011 the project will work in Hanover/Westmoreland Parishes Jamaica. Volunteers are students, professionals and retirees. Teams improve literacy through reading and language arts, music, sports, art and computer skills. In the schools that partner with Great Shape! Inc. the literacy rate sits at 40-50%. SuperKids program provides Jamaican children with enrichment opportunities and necessary equipment & supplies for success. In Jamaica, books are scarce and treated with great care and respect. Our program provides reading and language arts, as well as other educational opportunities: art, music, sports and computer technology.
We are proud and blessed to have generous volunteers & partners; the Jamaican Ministry of Education and Sandals Foundation. Our volunteers become heroes in the eyes of the Jamaican children and teachers. If you have worked with children and/or have a passion to serve you are qualified.
SuperKids heads to Jamaica every year and you can help!
Each volunteer is required to pay a USD 700 project fee and their own airfare to Jamaica. This fee goes to all the costs associated with running this amazing project. 93% of your fee goes straight back into the program supplying school supplies, computer equipment and other necessities to make this happen.
