Guangzhou - The city
Guangzhou (Canton), a prosperous metropolis full of vigor, is the capital city of Guangdong Province located along the south coastline of China. Being an excellent port on the Pearl River navigable to the South China Sea, and with fast accessibility to Hong Kong and Macau, Guangzhou serves as the political, economic, scientific, educational and cultural center in Guangdong area.

Guangzhou is considered as the paradise for food-lovers in south China. Guangzhou dish represents well the Guangdong (Cantonese) Cuisine, which is one among the most famous eight cuisines in China. A large amount of time-honored restaurants and quality new restaurants serve various authentic Guangzhou dishes, snacks, and drinks. The most popular restaurants gather around the old city area, in cluding the Dongshan District, Yuexiu District, and Liwan District. Panfu Road, West Jiangnan Road and East Huifu Road are recommended food streets for people to feel the famous eating customs such as Yam Cha (which means to drink tea), as well as having various kinds of soup or delicious Sampan Porridge.

The primary language of Guangzhou is Cantonese, although standard Mandarin, or Putonghua, is also widely spoken due to the large influx of migrants. However, Guangzhou natives are known among the Chinese for their heavily accented Mandarin, which may take a while to get used to if you have just started learning Mandarin. As Mandarin is the only language used in schools in mainland China, most younger locals will be bilingual in Cantonese and Mandarin.

The Students
Students are typically 20 to 35 years old professionals, well educated and from a wide variety of backgrounds. They are motivated to learn English and recognise it as a skill essential for their career development. Levels range from beginner right through to advanced and all students are clearly placement tested to ensure they are studying alongside students of the same abilities.

The Courses
Standard Classes
Class sizes are kept small, to an average of 3 students per class, which helps ensure real progress is made by all and allows for easy classroom management.

Lessons are made up of a variety of teaching materials and are designed to be engaging and communicative. Teachers guide students through both controlled practice and authentic conversation activities. All the lesson materials are already in place, so minimal lesson planning is required.

Social Club
Teachers also run sessions with more of a social focus, designed to further give students the opportunity to use their language in a natural setting, while having fun at the same time. Topics are limited only by your imagination and can be anything from baking cookies to speed dating.

As with all language schools, classes are delivered on evenings and weekends, giving teachers plenty of time off during weekday mornings and afternoons.

Professional Development
You will not only be teaching, but also developing your own skill sets and competencies. Teacher training and support is central to our company culture and through workshops, seminars and class observations you will be constantly expanding the teaching methods at your disposal. Time is devoted to idea and experience sharing so you always have fresh ideas to work with.

Main Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of English classes to a range of abilities
- Use your creative skills to develop social clubs and other events
