GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, formerly known as AustraLearn, AsiaLearn, and EuroLearn, offers the Sustainable Engineering program in Australia. This 3 week summer program introduces the concept of sustainability and promotes its application to projects in both the built environment and natural habitats of the world's driest continent, Australia. Led by an engineering professor from The College of New Jersey, the course will consider a number of areas in engineering and sustainability, including energy, water, materials, and transportation.
You can choose from two different versions of this course:
1. As an Interdisciplinary Studies course: open to all students and majors who wish to learn about engineering, built environment, and sustainability issues in Australia
2. As an upper-division engineering elective: for engineering majors who are entering or beyond their third year of their program. In this option, there will be additional technical assignments and readings required, in addition to the course content as described.
The program travels to Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, and Cairns. The program will include many site visits to locations with sustainable engineering practices and to several of Australia's leading universities that study sustainability and engineering, as well as a number of cultural activities. Site visits, cultural tours and excursions are projected to be: Sydney walking tour; Sydney Tower; Olympic Park technical insights tour; Powerhouse Museum; Murray One hydroelectric power station; desalination and wastewater treatment plants; Steelworks; Green Building Council; Blue mountains excursion; Canberra Sustainable House; Lamington National Park; Great Barrier Reef boat trip and excursions; visits to several of Australia's leading universities for lectures and tours.
