More than 80 per cent of Australians live within 50 kilometers of the coast so it comes as no surprise that the beach has become an integral part of the Australian way of life. La Trobe University offers many trips for students to experience the great outdoors. These include surfing adventures, snow skiing, mountaineering, rowing, scuba diving, snorkeling, water skiing and wakeboarding. Trips are run by La Trobe University clubs and offer Study Abroad students a great opportunity to socialize with Aussie students.

Highlights

La Trobe's unique Outdoor Education program offered exclusively at the Bendigo campus involves a number of excursions including trips to the Grampians National Park, the Victorian Alps, Murray River, and Little Desert. This program allows you to explore the Australian outback through bushwalking, canoeing, rock climbing and camping!

Fieldtrips and fieldwork - La Trobe Universitys Department of Zoology offers exciting and adventurous field trips to the Great Barrier Reefs Heron Island, Kangaroo Island in South Australia, and the mallee, an outback district of Victoria bordered by Big Desert and Little Desert.

Australian Studies: Discover Australia. Gain context and a deeper understanding of the Australian culture through this unit unique to La Trobe University. Students are treated with guest lectures from different academics each week; all experts in their field. Topics include Aboriginal Australia - race relations and land rights, the politics of water, cultural icons, gender, and Australian film and literature. This unit comes highly recommended to all study abroad students. No matter what your major is this is the perfect way to gain a deeper understanding of the country you are studying and living in.
