  • Description

As an intern/volunteer, you will be provided with the opportunity to contribute to a survey on urgent global challenges focusing on the environment and development. You will be researching topics covered by the survey of Global2015, filling in data gaps, and updating information in the draft survey. The topics available for research include: climate change, malnutrition, indoor air pollution, conflict, pneumonia, new diseases (such as SARS), water scarcity, and technological risks. The impacts on human health, mortality, and the economy are of great interest in this research area, as well as effective measures to reduce or prevent such impacts. You can choose the topics according to your skills and preferences.

Further contribution to the Global Challenges Survey may consist of the following:
    - Fact checking, source checking, proofreading, and copy-editing of the final English drafts of the survey could be a further task.
    - If desired, discussions in German and translating the English drafts into the German language, could also be an option.

After the completion of the survey we will be approaching international scientists and academics to review the appropriate topics of the global challenges survey. We will also be asking for public support from artists, stakeholders and, decision-makers both in business and politics with the goal of rallying enough support to approach and encourage them to increase their efforts in tackling the global challenges.

You can take part in researching contact data, communicating with appropriate and future supporters either by email, letter or phone. You also have an opportunity to participate in related presswork.

If you are interested, please send your C.V. and a statement as to why such an internship or volunteering position would be of interest to you and the skills you feel you could contribute to the project, as well as the appropriate starting date and the foreseeable duration of the internship.

  • Highlights

The project will give you a deeper insight into a broad range of subjects. You will work in an international team with close collaboration, exchange of opinions, and support. You have the opportunity to be part of a growing non-profit project, which is extending its international contacts and collaborative partnerships with governments, UN agencies, business companies, and NGOs. You may participate in research, report writing, the outreach to governments and companies, and press work.

  • Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with good research experience, especially in online research and analysing scientific reports. A background in studying environmental, developmental, economic or health topics at university is required. This type of research demands much patience and accuracy. Knowledge in statistics would also be of great use (but not a requirement).

Good English skills are required. Native speakers are very much appreciated, as well as experience in proofreading and copy-editing. German skills are not required (but welcome).

The ideal candidate will also have relevant experience and interest in the field of global challenges (e.g. voluntary activities, past work and/or internship experience, etc.).
