  • Description

    Play with and teach bright, happy children from impoverished families in Calderon, Ecuador. You're needed to assist teachers and help expand and maintain residential, training, and daycare facilities. Our service program enables you to provide direct, hands-on care for pre-schoolers through an amazing grassroots organization. No matter your background, your personal efforts improve these youngsters' well-being. What's more, Global Volunteers raises funds to provide on-going support and classroom sponsorships.

    Global Volunteers' development partnership serving at-risk and disabled children in Ecuador began in 1996, and continues under the direction of the Fundacion de Damas Calderonenses. As an essential link in a long chain of volunteers, you can help deliver essential services to greatly expand impoverished pre-schoolers' educational, health and social resources:

    * demonstrating study skills and assisting with homework
    * teaching health, nutrition and hygiene
    * promoting girls' education
    * demonstrating effective hand washing
    * starting and maintaining school gardens
    * constructing and repairing school and health facilities
    * assisting local heath care workers with public health campaigns

    Global Volunteers is a private, non-profit (501C-3) tax-exempt organization in consultative status with the United Nations working at the invitation and under the direction of local leaders to deliver the 12 Essential Services to partner communities worldwide. We engage short-term volunteers on long-term development projects to create, nurture and sustain the wellbeing of the world's children - so they can realize the full promise of their human potential. Each year, we mobilize up to 300 teams of volunteers to work alongside local people on work projects central to their advancement. We also raise funds to support our international and domestic partners and to provide sponsorships for educational, social and medical assistance.
