  • Description

With Global Volunteers, you can see China through the eyes of the Chinese people, experience everyday life in Chinese schools, homes and communities, and develop friendships with the children, youth and adults who live, work and play there. Teach English or care for children in two historic cities in very different parts of China - Xi'an and Kunming.

Volunteer in the Classroom: You can help teach young and adult students conversational English as they prepare for work in the global community where English serves as the universal language of commerce, industry and technology. During the spring and fall, English-teaching volunteers work in primary, secondary and college classrooms. At summer language camps, students and volunteers meet for conversation and informal learning activities.

Teach teachers: In Kunming, you can contribute to the unique "teach the teachers" program to improve Chinese teachers' English language ability. Even if you have never worked in a classroom, you can make a valuable contribution to this important project by lending your understanding of the English language to these eager adult students.

  • Highlights

Global Volunteers was the first American NGO invited to send short-term volunteers to the People's Republic of China in 1995. Today, you can join Global Volunteers in writing history with China's people in their classrooms and communities. Our prestigious hosts enable you to contribute to prominent educational institutions...and to assist at-risk children in direct people-to-people projects.

You'll stay in a beautiful, safe, full-service centrally located hotel with a restaurant, in-room European and American television channels, internet, and exercise and health amenities attached.

During free time in the evenings and on the weekend, you have ample time to explore the many historical and cultural sites in and around the host communities. These include archaeological sites, museums, temples, formal gardens and forests, and cultural attractions such as theatre, dance and concerts.
