You are a valuable resource in Ghana -- whether you teach English in elementary or secondary school classrooms, help students with homework, coordinate recreational activities, assist with building construction and renovation, or improve open spaces, you'll make a world of difference. Global Volunteers has been providing assistance with education, health care and community infrastructure in the Akrade region of Ghana since 1999. You might teach basic sciences and math or assist at a vocational school where women ages 18 to 25 learn catering, nutrition and home management. What's more, you don't need to have teaching experience to be of service. Virtually any native English speaker can assist with English classes. And if you have an area of expertise in science or math, these eager students will welcome you!
In addition, health care professionals and students occasionally can work at the small village clinic. The working conditions may not be what you are used to - the equipment is quite basic and the amount and variety of medicines are limited. Dentists can extract teeth, and eye-care specialists can conduct exams.
This is Travel That Feeds the Soul! Local leaders believe that the hope for their villages' future rests with their children, so our work projects center around serving youth. Long-term community plans call for an expanded market, improved health care facilities, and increased school resources. Here's a place where individuals, groups and families can make a significant difference -- help children who struggle with much that we take for granted.
You'll stay in a comfortable and safe "guest lodge" with air conditioning, television, in-room bathrooms, a dining area and a landscaped courtyard. Our cook prepares nutritious and appealing local cuisine, and you'll also enjoy some meals at local restaurants.
Ample time is available at the end of the work day and on the weekend to enjoy the area markets, museums, and nearby cultural and natural attractions..
If you have energy, an open mind, and are willing to serve as part of a team and take direction from local leaders, you will make a positive contribution to this exciting volunteer program.

The service program fee supports the community's on-going development programs, and also covers your meals, lodging, transportation within the work site, project expenses, administrative costs, and the services of a trained team leader. The service program cost does not cover free-time expenses, or your airfare or other travel to the host community. All costs, including airfare, are tax-deductible for U.S. tax-payers.

Global Volunteers is a private, non-profit (501C-3) tax-exempt organization in consultative status with the United Nations working at the invitation and under the direction of local leaders to deliver the 12 Essential Services to partner communities worldwide. We engage short-term volunteers on long-term development projects to create, nurture and sustain the wellbeing of the world's children - so they can realize the full promise of their human potential. Each year, we mobilize up to 300 teams of volunteers to work alongside local people on work projects central to their advancement. We also raise funds to support our international and domestic partners and to provide sponsorships for educational, social and medical assistance.
