Join Us In Supporting The Children Of Arai Village
The village of Arai is surrounded by the beautiful Cardamom mountain range in a largely undeveloped region of Battambang province. One of the toughest challenges facing the village of Arai is how to educate their two hundred children in an area well outside the bounds of the national school system.
Without curriculum, books, pens or pencils students pile into a school house consisting of little more than four posts and a few pieces of tin. Most of the children walk barefoot through the jungle to get to school where their teacher delivers lessons. Children attend school day in and day out for most of the school year without ever being able to practice the skills that they are learning. However, recently we have reached out to the people of Arai providing them with everything they need to get their school up and running.
Our job may sound simple - but it is far from it. We will be living and working in rural Cambodia without electricity, running water or access to many of the things we take for granted. We will be cooking with firewood and collecting food with local villagers, learning local fishing techniques, and learning to appreciate the simple lifestyle that still exists in this remote part of Cambodia.
Your time in Arai will give you a unique insight into village life that few Westerners will ever experience. Villagers are eager to share their lives with us and we will be privilaged and challenged to keep up with kids as they teach about their home.
Build The Future One Brick At A Time:
We will be working on the construction of new buildings, constructing basic furniture, and planting fruit trees and gardens. We encourage you not to be shy and jump if you feel inclined. Our friendly staff will help you learn the ropes and you may find yourself on the fast track to being a professional grade Cambodian carpenter or bricklayer!
It is hard to explain how grateful the community of Arai is for the work that you will be doing, every member of the community will express their gratitude in one way or another, most of the children will draw you pictures, fold flowers or other objects, while some will venture into the jungle to bring you fruit as their way of saying thank you.
Experience Cambodia
Our knowledgeable and fun staff are eager to show you their favorite things about being Cambodian. Let them guide you as you explore vivid night markets, sample exotic cuisine, and discover the wonders that Cambodia has to offer. Your adventures may include riding a bamboo train on colonial tracks or climbing to view the ancient spires of Banon temple atop the local foothills. To round out your trip, visit some of the world's most exotic temples in Siem Reap.
Because GSO is a non-profit organization, trips are less expensive than other community service experiences and all proceeds support GSO services.

Global Student Outreach believes that informal education through interaction will benefit impoverished and disadvantaged children more then forced encounters with foreign concepts and values. Our organization strives to connect foreign volunteers with Cambodian youth in need of support, allowing them to work together on cooperative projects throughout the country. The resulting interaction and genuine friendship between the volunteers and the local population will stimulate curiosity about the world beyond and promote greater interest in pursuit of higher education.
