  • Description

    Discover the legacy of artistry, crafts, textiles and music in Ghana! You will also be able to hike up to a breathtaking waterfall and visit craft villages where you apprentice with local weavers and bead makers. Most especially, you can make an impact by sharing your skills and knowledge to the children and families of your host community.

  • Highlights

    * Make handmade beads and weave traditional kente cloth with skilled artisans.
    * Bond with your host mother as you make fufu (corn porridge) in the courtyard of your Ghanaian home.
    * Build a library or a classroom, essential for the education of children and adults in your community.
    * Walk along suspension bridges 30 meters above the forest floor of Kakum National Park.
    * Learn West African drumming and dancing from renowned masters.
    * Step back in time as you wander through the 15th century trading posts and slave forts of Cape Coast.

  • Program Fees Include:

    Travel expenses to and from Accra are not included in the program fee. Global Routes arranges group travel. Round trip airfare from New York to Accra will be approximately USD 1,700. Please note that quoted airfares do not include taxes and airline surcharges, which are subject to change and will be significant. Students are also encouraged to raise monies to help fund their service projects.

    Global Routes offers community-service/cross-cultural exchange programs for North American high-school and college students throughout the world. Students immerse themselves in the life of a small, rural community as they live with a local family and teach in the village school, build a community meeting house or participate in other service projects.
