Why go to Argentina and why go now?

In addition to the cultural re-awakening now taking place in Argentina, by far the biggest reason to go to Argentina now is the unbelievable exchange rate (3:1 US dollar to the AR peso). Until only a few years ago, the exchange rate in Argentina was pegged at 1 US dollar to 1 AR peso. This meant Argentina was a very expensive country and few chose to go to Argentina for travel or study. Now, however, living and studying in Argentina is extremely affordable, one of the world's real bargains at the moment - and for this reason has become one of the top destinations for study, volunteering and interning.

  • GIC Argentina - Grupo de Intercambio Cultural's Mission Statement

We believe that participating in a cultural exchange is more than simply traveling to or staying in another country. We believe that such exchange is a once in a lifetime opportunity to understand other cultures, increase communication across national boundaries, and allow people to come to understand the similarities that tie us together yet still gain new perspectives on the world. We further believe that by expanding our knowledge of the world we will learn to overcome barriers that so frequently separate us. These goals are particularly important considering current world events. We strive to promote good understanding and communication by means of living and learning together. In order to achieve this, every year we design and coordinate many different educational programs in a variety of areas such as languages, arts and sports. At GIC Argentina, we hope that our work in furthering these goals will contribute in some small measure to greater peace and understanding in the world.
