Thailand is a country filled with wonders and beauty: golden beaches, prowling tigers, ancient cities, and an amazing culture. But Thailand is more than just that. It is a country looking to learn. The demand for English speaking teachers is great, so bring your skills to the table and change the lives of those looking for education in English.
Visiting teachers are able to teach in Thailand in Primary or Secondary (majority) schools, sometimes with the option of teaching at both levels, depending on the placement. Schools are both urban & rural, in Bangkok, central, eastern Thailand; and some limited placements in northern Thailand. Typically, visiting teachers are in the classroom and help with class planning, presentations, faculty meetings and help with extra-curricular activities.
This is a paid, full time position. Visiting teachers receive minimum salary of 30,000 baht/month (USD 1,000).
Host institutions provide assistance in finding comfortable accommodations. The cost of living in Thailand is very low. The salary may not seem particularly high in Western terms, but it is generous in local terms...about three times what local teachers earn and wages can easily finance independent travel during the year.
A full week of orientation is included. During orientation visiting teachers receive English teacher training, survival Thai language lessons, Thai culture & lifestyle classes, daily living advice, group discussions with former participants, and hear special guest speakers.
Teaching Responsibilities
* Teaching English in a classroom setting, working to improve students listening and speaking skills.
* Prepare in-class activities focused on language development such as dialogues, games, pronunciation and grammar activities, songs, role-playing and conversation groups.
* Plan lessons and presentations to your class.
* Attend some faculty meetings.
* Help plan and implement some extra-curricular activities (after-school English clubs, art projects, sporting activities etc.)
* Teach Monday through Thursday about 6 hours each day and you will have Fridays off.
Native English speakers only. You do not need to be a qualified teacher in your country to be a visiting teacher in Thailand (in some cases) but the salary is higher if you are a qualified teacher.
