Be part of the home based medical care teams that go out and help sick people in their own homes. These communities suffer from an immense lack of medical facilities. Help with basic first aid, explaining the importance of hygiene and healthy diet, maybe even helping with simple house work. The mornings are spent helping with out patient care and the afternoons are spent assisting in the local community
This program in Cape Town allows you to immerse yourself in the culture and make a huge difference for the locals.
As a GeoVisions volunteer it is possible to:
* Be part of home based care team and provide out-patient service to sick adults and children in their homes
* Offer needed support to families and give medical and social referrals as needed
* Work alongside qualified nurses and gain insight into the basic health care in South Africa
* Improve the comfort and basic resources of these itll adults and children in underprivileged townships.
* Offer advice and information about healthy diet and lifestyle changes.
* Treat and dress wounds and monitor a patient's health.
In the afternoons, it is possible to:
* Build and paint schools
* Assist teachers with after school care
* Assist with sports after school
* Help with community programs at the local library
