Description

Georgia State offers many summer and maymester programs led and taught by Georgia State professors. These programs tend to be focused on a particular topic or theme and range from 10 to 20 participants, though some are larger. Students participate in lectures, site visits, excursions, and tours as part of the program. These programs usually last between two and six weeks. Students find these programs a great way to really get to know their professors and other GSU students while earning GSU credits and grades. Students do not have to study on a program related to their major, but they certainly can. Financial aid and scholarships are available.

Highlights

This 6-credit course consists of six evening classes held over one week in Atlanta in preparation for a two-week trip to the Czech Republic and Hungary, focusing on Prague and Budapest.

The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the dynamics of conducting business in transitioning economies in the context of the European Union. The six Atlanta classes will be held at GSU between May 7 and May 12. This aspect of the course is intended to give students an intensive grounding in the major themes of management in transitioning economies. In addition, basic histories, customs and languages of both countries will be introduced. The latter half of the course, May 13 - 26, is conducted in the Czech Republic and Hungary (including a one day visit to Bratislava, Slovakia) and will provide students with the opportunity to learn first-hand, through company visits as well as sessions with high-level government, business and academic speakers, how the managers of domestic and international firms cope with the challenges of transition and accession to the EU.
