  • Description

    The Ancient City of Rome is a three-credit (undergraduate or graduate) study-travel course, which offers an introduction to the archaeology of the city of Rome, capital of a vast empire that stretched for thousands of miles over three continents and still the seat of the Catholic Church.

    Curriculum

    Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive three (3) Georgetown University undergraduate or graduate credits for the following course:

    CLSS-225-62: The Ancient City of Rome.

    Non-Georgetown students should discuss transfer of credit with a dean or academic adviser at their home university. The Program Director is Dr. Josiah Osgood. Dr. Osgood holds a Ph.D. in Classics from Yale University and specializes in ancient history and literature.

  • Highlights

    Sites to be visited in Rome include the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the palace of the emperors, the imperial baths, and the Forum. Students will also examine finds in the numerous museums in Rome that house antiquities, including the Vatican Museums. There will be special field trips to examine the imperial port of Ostia as well as Pompeii, the city buried in AD 79 by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

    This price includes tuition, admissions to archaeological sites and museums, hotel costs at double occupancy (single occupancy has an additional cost), and approximately half of all meals. Airfare to/from Italy, passport fees, and other individual expenses are not included in this cost.
