  • Description

The McDonough School of Business (MSB) and the Office of International Programs announce the 29th annual Graduate Business Program in International Management at Oxford, England. The program offers six semester credits to be earned during six weeks of study at Oxford. The outstanding features of the program include:

Instruction by regular Oxford University faculty members and U.K. private sector executives.

Course modules based on the traditional Oxford tutorial method of instruction, which emphasizes small group discussion, keen critical thinking, thorough scholarship, and substantive intellectual debate.

Residence in single rooms at the scenic Liddell site of Corpus Christi College, and opportunities to participate in a wide range of educational, cultural, and athletic activities.

The program is designed for graduate students in either business administration or related social science fields. The immediate benefit from participating in the program is knowledge of international management from a foreign perspective, which cannot be obtained in a U.S. setting. The long-term benefit is an awareness of cultural differences that will enrich the student's personal as well as work life for many years to come.

    Curriculum:

Each student enrolls in four modules selected from three subject-areas (marketing/strategy; finance; and politics/public policy). Each module typically meets four times during the course of the program. Modules are structured around the tutorial method of instruction, which emphasizes critical thinking and scholarly debate. Students meet with their instructors in groups of no more than two or three to analyze issues, discuss research findings, debate conclusions, and present papers. It is an enriching experience designed to develop confidence and independence of thought and judgment - qualities vital to today's complex business world.

A limited number of students will have the opportunity to undertake a Brussels-based module exploring politics, economics, and business in the EU. This module is designed to provide both an overview of current EU issues and unique opportunities for participants to engage in serious discussion with policy-makers, business leaders, and academics while visiting some of the EU's major institutions, including the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council Secretariat.

All participants will enroll in the following course:

MGMT 598-62: International Management (6 credits).

Tutorial, lecture, and student project topics in past years have included the following:
    - European Multi-Channel Marketing
    - Social Finance
    - Public Sector Management
    - Internal Communication and the Art & Science of Change Management
    - The Essence of International Money - A European Perspective
    - Private Equity in a European Context: Evolution, Opportunities, and Challenges
    - Fair Trade
    - International Development
    - Leadership

Faculty for lectures and tutorials are drawn from British Universities and UK private enterprises. Professors and Fellows from various Oxford Colleges as well as British corporate executives form the core faculty.

Upon successful completion of the program, Georgetown students will receive six (6) GU graduate semester credits. Non-Georgetown students should discuss transfer of credit with a dean or academic adviser at their home university.

  • Highlights

The Liddell site is surrounded by parks, gardens, and the stunning Christ Church Meadow, all of which offer great opportunities for jogging, walking, and relaxing in the English countryside.
