  • Description

This gap year teaching project is based in Nepalese village schools and gives volunteers an opportunity to make a real difference to the education of children from poor farming communities. Volunteers are based near Dhulikhel, a small town rich with ancient Nepalese culture. Although situated only 90 minutes travel from Kathmandu, the villages retain their unspoilt, rustic charm, and offer stunning views of the Langtang Himalayas on the horizon.

Gap year volunteers teach English and can incorporate other subjects according to their own areas of interest. This can include sport, music, art or drama. Children are aged between 4 and 16 and though class sizes are manageable, resources at the schools are limited and there is a lack of qualified teachers. Because of this volunteer teachers can have a big impact as they bring their energy and enthusiasm to the schools. Previous volunteers have found themselves involved in various extra-curricular activities at their schools, as well as providing personal language tuition and teacher training for local staff.

  • Highlights

Living in rural Nepal gives volunteers the chance to experience first-hand one of the world's most dramatically beautiful countries. This is fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into Nepalese culture while contributing to the education of genuinely needy and disadvantaged students.

The physical conditions at the schools are often basic and it can be challenging to teach with limited equipment. However, the children are eager to learn and volunteers always find it to be a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
