I traveled with a friend to Nepal, where we both were teaching at a local school in Kathmandu. We had never taught before, so were a bit apprehensive and unsure of what to expect. The GapGuru pre-departure briefing was excellent and gave us the confidence to embark on our trip feeling more confident. At Kathmandu, we were met by the GapGuru local coordinator Ram, who was absolutely wonderful and great support for us throughout our time in Nepal. We got to know him and his family really well and would often go over to his house for a change. Our placement at the school was most enjoyable as the children and staff were extremely welcoming and very friendly. While I taught maths, my friend taught English to children in years 4 and 5. Our accommodation was very basic but safe, the food did become a bit monotonous as we had the same daal and rice on most days. However it was fairly cheap to go out and eat and we found some nice places to eat including the local Pizza Hut!
