For those thinking of a career in medicine and particularly good if you haven't started yet your training, then this is a great opportunity for you. This is also open to those currently studying medicine or are newly qualified and want to gain hands on experience. The hospital welcomes gap year volunteers from all levels, pre-University, medical students and graduates doctors. They believe they have a duty to help train young people so particularly welcome interns who haven't yet started medical training.
About the project:
This state of the art 150-bed hospital opened in Pune just a year ago and although it's a private hospital it focuses on social equality. Doctors operate free of charge for people who can't afford treatment and donors are found to pay for their care under their Samvedana (empathy) programme.
Specialities include Neurology and Neurosurgery, Haemotology, Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, Gastro Enterology, Paediatric Specialties, Angiology, Diabetology, Hypertensive Clinics, Nephrology, Urology, Trauma, Foot and Hand Surgery, Cosmetology, Internal Medicine and Medical Genetics.
Your Role:
What you will do during your internship will vary, depending on how much experience you have. Pre-University gappers apart from observing the work of different departments as well as operations will be able to get involved with customer care, making sure patients are happy, counseling/talking to patients, hospital aspesis protocols and working at the reception.
The medical graduates will undergo rotation in following clinical departments - neurology/neurosurgery, pediatrics and pediatric neurology, emergency and critical care medicine, haematology and bone marrow transplant, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, trauma and orthopedics, gastrointestinal and laproscopic surgery.
What you can do:
Volunteers would be expected to be in the hospital 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. They would be able to observe operations (i.e. hospital operations and actual medical operations) and spend a few weeks in each department. Other than this they would be able to get involved and have specific duties in various areas of the hospital - work in reception, customer care, counseling/talking to patients, hospital aspesis protocols etc.
You'll be working with a dedicated team that has a clear sense of social responsibility and of giving something back
What you gain:
You gain a fantastic insight into the medical profession the chance to get trained with leading doctors and an experience that will give you an advantage whether you are aspiring for a career in medicine or a qualified doctor.
The hospital welcomes gap year volunteers from all levels, Pre University, medical students and graduates doctors.
