  • Description

Swaziland is known for its special mystique, created by the traditional way of life, and the extreme friendliness of its people. Enjoy the experience of this unusual country that lies at the heart of southern Africa, whilst protecting precious species such as appealing elephants, and rare Black and White Rhinos. Spend time in an area rich in a deeply entrenched heritage that dates back to the Stone Age, where bats nest in the gnarled trees of the forests and rare reptiles creep through the dense undergrowth.

This truly is an incredible chance to visit a relatively unknown country, and experience wildlife conservation in a breathtaking setting!

    * What Will I Be Doing?

You will be participating in a wide range of activities which, depending upon time of year and availability, may include:

    * night drives to survey and assess the nocturnal activities of predators such as leopards and lion
    * visiting sites where there are known nests, roosts or dens to monitor and observe the breeding and reproductive rates and behaviour patterns of a variety of different species
    * walking, driving and cycling through the stunning game reserve, to locate and observe active nests, roosts and dens of threatened birds such as eagles, vultures and storks, bats and other species such as hyenas, Genets and Serval Cats
    * weighing, measuring, tagging and ringing young birds and bats to facilitate monitoring of their movements and to allow study of their distribution and abundance
    * helping to monitor and care for animals kept in enclosures prior to their reintroduction
    * radio tracking threatened species fitted with radio transmitters to determine their home ranges and distribution patterns
    * erecting nets and harp traps for the live capture of birds and bats
    * visiting and checking long term monitoring sites to record the behaviour of threatened species

All of the activities above contribute to the overall aim of the project, which is to develop produce and implement conservation action plans for the threatened species that exist in this unique environment.
