  • Description

Experience a supercharged fortnight of adventure activities in Senegal, a multifaceted and vibrant country famous for its art heritage and a rich tapestry of interwoven musical roots. Despite its diminutive size, Senegal has its own unique amalgamation of exotic music, tempting cuisine and unusual customs, making it a veritable melting pot of cultural discovery. Visit pristine ivory coastline laced with the dramatic expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, where you will find beaches scattered with rose-tinged shells, palm trees fringing the sandy shores and coral reefs and cays replete with a myriad of species of tiny fish and other tropical creatures unique to these waters.

    * What Will I Be Doing?

Your first five days will consist of acclimatisation to your new environment. During this time, you will have a chance to visit some local areas of interest such as Goree Island and the Old Slave House Museum as well as exploring the city. You will also be given an introductory lesson to Wolof, the main African language spoken in Senegal. This period is a great time to get to know your way around the city and to get acquainted with the public transport system, as well as practical tasks such as registering with the Embassy and exchanging currency into Communaute Financiere Africaine (CFA) francs.

After your five day orientation period, you will start work on the project. You will be working with a local Non-Governmental Organisation, shadowing a doctor or nurse within a community medical centre. Depending on your experience, you may be working as a nurse or a doctor's assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity for those wishing to embark on a career within medicine or nursing and offers a great chance to gain practical working experience within a clinical environment.
