Mozambique - the word evokes images of pristine coastline, beautiful terracotta tiled towns and fascinating Arab influenced culture. However there is much more to this unique country than being simply an idyllic travel destination. As well as providing a home for an incredible range of exotic wildlife, Mozambique's cultural heritage is a rich amalgamation of Portuguese, Asian and indigenous origins and traditions. However, Mozambique's tumultuous past has resulted in social and economic challenges, and many of its more deprived citizens have suffered in consequence. The civil war of the 1980's resulted in the closure or destruction of over 5,700 primary schools, depriving children of the precious resource of education- today only 30% of children attend school. This project gives you the opportunity to do something about this appalling statistic and contribute to the lives of those who struggle to survive and who lack basic needs and are marginalised in a variety of ways. Undertake this challenging and valuable assignment in Mozambique where you will wake up to the amber sun creeping over the still horizon of the Indian Ocean, and fall asleep to the rythym of the waves lapping the shore, at the end of another rewarding and enjoyable day. Teach adults and children in Mozambique for a truly exceptional gap year or year out experience!
