Kenya - a land of intense beauty, epic landscapes, fascinating tribes and exuberant communities. Charismatic wildlife roam Rift Valley plains, white sand beaches fringe the turquoise Indian Ocean and ancient tribal communities practice traditional customs little changed since the dawn of time. All these combine to provide a destination of unparalleled appeal and fascination.
Travel to the east coast of this spectacular land and immerse yourself in a community and culture unencumbered by the burdens of modern day Western society. The people are extremely welcoming and the landscape, beaches and surrounding islands are stunningly beautiful. You will enjoy peaceful evenings spent chatting to locals or reading and reflecting on the charm of your tranquil surroundings.
* What Will I Be Doing?
The school day runs from 08:00-17:00 with breaks for morning tea and lunch. During lunchtime, you may either go back to your host family for lunch or help feed the children that find it difficult to feed themselves.
You will be working with children with different types of learning difficulties over a range of ages so you will need to have great patience and have a good imagination to think of interesting and fun lessons. You will be teaching any subjects that you have a particular interest and knowledge in such as maths, sciences, geography or history. You may also teach basic English or perhaps teach sports outside the classroom.
You could also get involved with community outreach programmes in order to help change the perception that the community has of these children. You will discuss your experiences of education, either as a student or teacher, with the staff at the school to help understand the strengths and weaknesses of the different systems. You may also be working with the teachers to prepare teaching guidance manuals which will help with the school's ongoing success and help build the confidence of new staff.
* Discover this land of intense beauty!
* Make lifelong friends.
* Work with children with different types of learning difficulties.

Independently
To conserve the world's most endangered wildlife and threatened habitats and to build sustainable livelihoods for marginalized and under resourced communities in the world's poorest countries. To create solutions that are apolitical, forward-thinking, community-driven, and innovative and which take into consideration the long-term needs of low income communities.
