Experience this exhilarating 9-day expedition through the lush expanses of the Sumatran rainforest, where you will learn vital jungle survival skills, track the wild Orangutans through their stunning natural habitat, experience and learn more about ecotourism and the vital role it plays in the preservation of these precious natural resources, all the while making new friends for life!
Whilst on the trek you will be on the lookout for an incredible range of species including elephants, tapir, Sun Bears, and of course the beautiful Orangutans, the main focus of the expedition. You may even be lucky enough to spot the rare and elusive Sumatran Tiger moving silently through the tangled depths of the undergrowth.
* What Will I Be Doing?
Your journey will start with a night spent in a hotel in Bukit Lawang, enabling you to adjust to the humidity and to relax and prepare for the journey ahead. Following this, a short introductory trek is included in the expedition cost, involving travelling out to a feeding platform to spot partially rehabilitated Orangutans, giving you the chance to practise identifying these appealing primates in the dense undergrowth. Next your trek begins - six days and nights of travelling through the forest, constantly learning and practising expedition skills ranging from catching fish for your dinner, building your own fire for cooking and even finding and preparing jungle medicine! You will also be on the lookout for a multitude of species, particularly Orangutans, and enjoying the extraordinary levels of biodiversity that are found here - of the 10,000 plant species found in the West Indo Malayan region, it is estimated that 45% are found in this national park. Throughout your journey, you will be learning about ecotourism from your expert leaders, and will fully appreciate how important these sustainable measures are. Once the trek is over, you will have an adrenaline fueled river "tube" journey (rafting) back to Bukit Lawang, where you will end on a high with an evening BBQ and party. This really is a truly unique expedition and will provide an absolutely unforgettable experience!
