Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live amongst an indigenous forest community, in one of the most spectacular locations on earth? To wake up to the sight of a delicate mist hanging amongst towering trees interlaced with creepers and hanging with vines, where the sound of the whistling thrush drifts through the canopy? Join our Sumatra teaching and community project for a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget, as you discover this enchanting tropical world. Sumatra's forests are overflowing with wildlife including species as diverse as sun bears, elephants and the tallest individual flower in the world. They are also home to several small indigenous communities that exist much as they have for thousands of years; live amongst these fascinating and hospitable people whilst building your teaching skills and experience and exploring this atmospheric corner of the globe.
* What Will I Be Doing?
You will live and work at the heart of the village community, forming strong bonds with your hosts as you learn more about their way of life and ancient traditions. You will teach the younger members of the community who will be fascinated to learn from someone who comes from a hugely different culture. You can bring a teaching experience that is unique to you, by basing your lessons around your own particular skills and knowledge.
As well as teaching English you can run basic sports coaching and environmental education lessons, as well as encouraging them to be creative - try an arts and crafts session or a put on a play! Running alongside the teaching element of the project is the community development aspect, which involves a crucial reforestation programme, rejuvenating the precious forest ecosystem.
Once this phase of the project is over, you will head into the jungle equipped with a new sense of how the people of the region survive so successfully within the untamed rainforest environment. Led by your expert local guides, the trek will take you along little known jungle paths dripping with exotic creepers, strange and delicate flowers, and a plenitude of unusual insects, birds and mammals. Along the way you will be taught survival skills that have been honed and perfected over thousands of years to enable a safe and successful passage through the unforgiving forest - including collecting and processing medicinal plants!
This project is an unmissable chance to learn from those who live in harmony with their natural home - whilst giving something back in the form of invaluable community work.
* Explore Sumatra's jungles!
* Make lifelong friends.
* Work at the heart of the village community.

To conserve the world's most endangered wildlife and threatened habitats and to build sustainable livelihoods for marginalized and under resourced communities in the world's poorest countries. To create solutions that are apolitical, forward-thinking, community-driven, and innovative and which take into consideration the long-term needs of low income communities.
