With an historical significance that resonates across millennia, Ethiopia is known as the cradle of humanity for good reason. The oldest human remains were found here, and it has evolved to become a fascinating region of the African continent. The only nation to completely avoid colonisation, it has a proud and complex culture expressed through dramatic tribal traditions and a life blood of passionate and vibrant people who are proud of their recently acquired democracy.
Here in a land where the Queen of Sheba once ruled, primitive and modern live side by side, but the exquisite facial bone structure of the women here evokes the ancient heritage of the mighty queens of the past. However, years of famine, war and misrule have left a legacy of poverty and its attendant problems - consequently, it is somewhere that truly needs and deserves the help of international volunteers.
* What Will I Be Doing?
Your work schedule will cover a comprehensive, varied and enjoyable teaching programme which will engage you fully with your pupils and will awaken your creativity and initiative.
If you have chosen the main teaching option, you will be involved with small groups of very enthusiastic and eager young people, all keen to improve their English communication skills. They will have volunteered for these extra lessons and you will never find a problem with their motivation and discipline. You will be provided with all teaching materials which have been designed by UK and Ethiopian teachers to be simple to use yet highly effective for your students. You will be given plenty of help and support in using these materials before you start teaching.
