WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
Many of the social organizations that we collaborate with work together to bring a range of social injustices into the public domain through a variety of media, including print, audio, visual and through events such as protests.
These organizations do not have unlimited finances or technical resources, but what they do have above all is a great deal of creativity that allows them to express themselves in the most striking ways.
Throughout this project you will be working closely with one such NGO helping them to research, create, edit, produce and broadcast a range of causes through various media streams depending upon the focus of the organization at the time of your placement.
Some of the tasks you may be involved with, bringing your own technical skills, include the widespread circulation within the neighborhood of the work that the community centre does on a daily basis. For example planning and organizing events and communicating their social initiatives and actions such as fighting for their rights and highlighting injustice. You will be given the opportunity to collaborate with the team to improve the efficiency of assembling written summaries and reports from the mass media to broadcast to the neighborhood. You may collaborate on the production of videos, presentations and other dissemination tools, attend and help organize meetings and protests and translate English newspaper articles into Spanish for analysis.
Your tasks will depend on your own skills and interests as well as what is needed at the time of your internship. You will be encouraged to bring your own creativity, perspective and skills to the articles you contribute to, whilst also constantly learning from your colleagues and fellow professionals.
