Youth affected by disabilities constitute a health problem due to its impact on the child's quality of life, and its repercussions on the family. Children's well-being is one of society's most important tasks. The poor economic conditions in Peru, such as hunger, malnutrition, and lack of medical assistance is a cause of high levels of disability. In order to confront these problems, it is necessary to integrate the health system, special education and above all, communication in general. Expand Peru's volunteer program aims to unite wills and efforts to develop actions to increase the quality of the attention and special education services that disabled children receive. This will allow the improvement of their quality of life and social integration.

Volunteers will work in Huancayo's urban area giving integral attention to 150 children and youths with special educational needs due to intellectual and sensorial handicaps. The project's mission is to create a better quality of life for handicapped persons, a quality of life which has to comply with their essential rights of social development.

Expand Peru's Mission Statement

Started in 1999, we are a group of friends with a desire to help. We work with volunteers from all around the world to create an organization that effectively makes a change in Huancayo, Peru. We match each volunteer with the program best suited to their skills and objectives as a volunteer. We consider each volunteer and partner a key member of our Expand Peru family. We offer six social assistance programs, each with a focus on health, education, and other social issues. Our organization is dedicated to helping those in need and in the best way possible. We team with different social assistance organizations and education centers that share our vision of a better tomorrow for Peru's children. Many of these children come from rough economic situations or homes where they don't receive much love. At Expand Peru, we strive to contribute to the integral development of each child we serve. Our hope is that each of our programs will better the quality of the lives of these children and allow them to improve their situations. We also desire that our volunteers leave with a better sense of the world and what it means to be a global community by using their skills to make a difference.
